Samuel later lived - two of the roads were named Howard St and
Bibbins St
James W b 1831 NY d 1-16-1858 buried Thayler Cem, Northville , MI
m 2-13-1856 Wayne Co Mary E Seeley
Mary likely was the Mary Bibbins who m Asa Grow 1859 -
a Mary Grow lv in Nankin Twp 1860 (without Asa) two pgs

on 12-11-1858 his property in Romulus was sold to Charles W Seeley

m 1849 Samuel Blanchar Smith b 5-27-1825 Lockport NY

Rowland LBibbins b 1823 NY d 6-29-1861 buried Thayler Cem, Northville
lived alone in Ann Arbor MI in 1850 and in Nankin Twp MI in 1860
There is only circumstantial evidence that Rowland is Samuel's son,
but he certainly appears to have had close ties to James W
m Eleanor C Winans 9-27-1853 in the Dutch Reformed Church of
Coxsackie NY who was b 1824 NY - it would seem that she
met Rowland in MI but chose to get married in her home town
Rowland and Eleanor bought property in Romulus Twp 1-19-1860
with Elisha Bibbins as witness
In 1870 and 1880 censuses and 1886 city directory for Ann Arbor

relationship and age unknown
# Buried Romulus Cemetery , Romulus MI
Samuel Bibbins - continued
Enlisted in army in Saratoga 9-13-1814 as a substitute for uncle Calvin who had
been drafted - served in Plattsburg NY as a drummer in Capt Josiah Perry's Co,
Col John Prior's regiment of NY Militia and discharged there 12-12-1814 -
received pension beginning in 1871 - claim no. SC 17333 & SO 7688
Joined Methodist-Episcopal Church 1817 (Genesee Conference), received licence
as preacher 1820-21, admitted into full connection with the church in 1823
In 1828* moved to Salem MI where he lived for several years and was a preacher
within the Detroit Conference - In 1839 the Mich. Annual Conference under the
leadership of the strongly pro-southern Bishop Joshua Soule refused to ordain
Samuel Bibbins or Marcus Swift due to their strong abolitionist views. They thus
left the Conf and formed a branch of the American Wesleyan Church (which was
known to be very active in the Underground Railway) out of his cabinet shop in
Plymouth . Samuel brought nearly half of the membership of his Northville church
with him. In 1867 Samuel and Elisha Bibbins and 5 other ministers rejoined the
Conf in an emotional ceremony
lv Salina NY 1820, likely Warsaw NY 1823, Salem MI 1828*, Plymouth MI 1839-1856,
Romulus MI 1856 until his death -
he bought several properties in Romulus 1856-60 (he also listed residences in Ida and
Ontonagon MI)
* 1828 date not certain - not listed in 1830 MI census. A Samuel Bivens listed in
Middlesex, Yates Co. NY in 1830 census with children of the applicable age.
A Rev "Charles" Bibbins was listed as the minister of the 2nd Methodist Church
of Potter, Yates Co in 1829 in some anniversary publications. Potter is next to
Middlesex. This could well be Rev Samuel.
