History of McLean County, Illinois - by Jacob L. Hasbrouch - v. 2 - p. 1124

Walter C. Rogers, Manager of Farmers' Grain Elevator and postmaster of Covell, is a prominent citizen of McLean County. He was born on the homestead, Dec. 19, 1875, and is a son of Wesley H. and Mary I. (Hart) Rogers. Wesley H. Rogers was born in Pennsylvania, Feb. 2, 1833, a son of William Rogers, who migrated from Pennsylvania to Peoria County, Ill., in 1848, and in 1856 settled with his five sons in Dale Township, McLean County. Wesley H. Rogers was a prominent farmer of Dale Township for many years, and died March 17, 1900. His wife was a daughter of Amaziah and Louisa (Godding) Hart, the former a native ov Virginia and the latter of Kentucky. They Hart family came to Peoria County, Ill. in 1844.

History of McLean County p. 1268

Rogers, Walter C. The families of Walter C. Rogers, the well known farmer and stock-raiser of Dale Township, McLean County, on both the paternal and maternal sides, were among the early pioneers of Peoria County, Ill., and his paternal grandparents settled on the farm in the township which is now owned by the grandson, whose life is here reviewed. William Roger, the grandfather, migrated from Pennsylvania to Peoria County, in 1848, and in 1856, settled with his five sons in Dale Township. Their family had consisted of six children, but a daughter also died in Peoria County. The five sons mentioned were: Thomas A., deceased; Wesley H., deceased, the father of Walter C. Rogers: James W., a retired citizen of Iowa; Samuel K. of Macinaw, Ill., and Joseph who died in Cleveland Ohio. His wife, Isabel (Watterson) Rogers, died in February 1882, while his death occurred in February 1888. The father, Wesley H. Rogers, was born in Pennsylvania, February 2, 1833, and came to Peoria County, Ill., in 1848. He there grew to young manhood, engaged in farming, and February 14, 1856, married Mary I. Hart, a Kentucky girl, born May 7, 1841, and who was therefore a bride of less than fifteen years. In the spring of 1856 they settled on the Dale Township farm which has continued to be the old homestead; here the husband and father died March 17, 1900, aged sixty-sever, and here the widow still resides, at the age of sixty-five. Mr. Rogers was an honorable man and much respected throughout the township. He served as Road Commissioner for a number of years, and was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church, as is still his wife. Their family has consisted of two sons and six daughters, of whom one son and four daughters are now living. Walter C. Rogers, the only surviving son of this family, was born on the old homestead, December 19, 1875, and this locality has been the scene of his education and development as a man, a successful farmer and useful citizen. His fine homestead consists of 140 acres of land, a portion of it scientifically improved and devoted to general farming purposes, and the remainder to the raising of a high grade of livestock. In politics, he is a Republican, and, with his wife, is a member of the Methodist Church. In 1901 Walter C. Rogers was united in marriage to Miss Cora Bell Stubblefield, daughter of David R. Stubblefield, whose biography is published in other pages of this work. They have had one child, - Gladys Fay, born March 15, 1904.
