2. John Howland - was born about 1592 and died on 23 Feb 1673 in Plymouth, Mass. . He was the son of Henry Howland and Anne-Margaret Aires.
John married Elizabeth Tilley on 4 Aug 1623 in Plymouth, Mass.. Elizabeth was born about 1604 in Scroobay, Nottingham, England. She was the daughter of John Tilley and Joan Hurst. She died on 21 Dec 1687 in Swanzey, Bristol Co., Mass. and was buried in Brown lot, Little Neck, Riverside, Ri. .

Elizabeth - came to America on the Mayflower with her parents and future husband.

John - was the only one of the three HOWLAND brothers to come on the Mayflower, the other two brothers came over in 1624.
 
His was the 13th name of 41 persons who signed the memorable compact in the cabin of the Mayflower in "Cape Cod Harbor" in Nov 1620. He signed on as a manservant Mr. John Carver. "A profitable instrument of good; the last man that was left of those that came over on the ship called the May Flower..." - Plymouth Col. Recs.
 
From "One Hundred and Sixty Allied Families" by John Osborne Austin - 'A lusty young man (called John Howland) coming upon some occasion above the grating was with a seele (Sail) of the ship thrown into the sea, but it pleased God that he caught hold of the topsail halyards which hung overboard, an ran out at length, yet he held his hold (though he was sundry fathoms under water) till he was hauled up by the same rope to the brim of the water, and then with a boat hook and other means got into the ship again.'
 
When the Mayflower was yet in Cape Cod Harbor, ten of her "principal men", including John, were sent out in a boat, manned by eight sailors, to select a place to establish a longed-for home for the weary band. A storm drove them into Plymouth harbor, and Plymouth was selected as the place of settlement.

iii.  Jabez Howland was born in 1628 in Plymouth, Mass. and died in 1712 .

Jabez - occupation: Town Clerk - married Bethiah Thatcher - 11 children. Another source (LDS) had death date as Apr 7, 1708. Blacksmith by trade, served as Lt. in King Phillip's war.
iv.  Hope Howland was born on 30 Aug 1629 in Plymouth, Mass. and died on 8 Jan 1683/1684 in Barnstable, Mass. and was buried in Lothrop Hill .

Hope - married John Chipman about 1646 - 11 children. One of them, Ruth Chipman married Eleazer Crocker, the son of William Crocker.
v.  Elizabeth Howland was born about 1632 in Plymouth, Mass. and died in 1683 .

Elizabeth - married 1) Ephraim Hicks 1n 1649, 2) John Dickarson in 1651 - 9 children born at Oyster Bay, Long Island.
vi.  Lydia Howland was born about 1628 in Plymouth, Mass. and died on 11 Jan 1710/1711 .

Lydia - married John Brown - settled in Swanzey, Mass - 3 children.
vii.  Ruth Howland was born in Rocky Nook, Mass..

Ruth - married Thomas Cushman Jr. - 3 children.
viii.  Hannah Howland was born about 1635 in Rocky Nook, Mass. and died in 1687 in Swansea, Bristol Co, Mass. .

Hannah - married Jonathan Bosworth in 1661 - 7 children.
ix.  Joseph Howland was born about 1637 in Rocky Nook, Mass. and died Jan 1703/1704 .

Joseph - occupation: Surveyor - married Elizabeth Southworth in 1664 - 9 children. Became a military office during the Indian Wars.
x.  Isaac Howland was born on 15 Nov 1649 in Plymouth, Mass. and died on 9 Mar 1724 .

Isaac - married Elizabeth Vaughn of Middleborough, Mass in 1724. - 8 children. Settled at Millboro - was an officer during the Indian Wars. Kept an "ordinary" or Inn in 1684.

3. John Howland - was born on 24 Feb 1627 in Plymouth, Mass. and died on 6 May 1693 in Barnstable, Mass. . He was the son of John Howland and Elizabeth Tilley.
John married Mary Lee on 26 Oct 1651 in Plymouth, Mass.. Mary was born about 1630 in Barnstable, Mass.. She was the daughter of Robert Lee. She died on 6 May 1693 in Barnstable, Mass. .

John - occupation: Businessman - possessed a great deal of energy, was a systematic businessman, and was highly respected in the colony (Barnstable). In 1673 he was appointed by the court "Ensign of the Milletary compagnie" of Barnstable, and in 1689 was chosen one to the selectmen of that town. Ensign in Barnstable Co, 1675 in King Phillips war.

Isaac - married Ann Taylor in 1686. One of their children, Joseph Howland married Rachel Crocker in 1739.

v.  Mercy Howland was born on 21 Jan 1663 in Barnstable, Mass. and died in 1717 .

Mercy - married Joseph Hamblin in 1704.
vi.  Lydia Howland was born on 9 Jan 1665 in Barnstable, Mass. and died on 6 Jul 1717 .

Lydia - married Joseph Jenkins. They had a son Benjamin Jenkins whose daughter, Hannah Jenkins married Job Howland, the son of Lydia's brother John.

viii.  Anne Howland was born on 9 Sep 1670 in Barnstable, Mass. and died on 27 Apr 1741 .

Anne - married Joseph Crocker in 1691. Joseph was the son of John Crocker.

x.  John Howland was born on 31 Dec 1674 in Barnstable, Mass. and died on 14 Feb 1738 in Barnstable, Mass. .

John - married 1) Abigail Crocker, 2) Mary Crocker, the daughter of Job Crocker and Mercy Freeman.

4. Hannah Howland - was born on 15 May 1661 in Barnstable, Mass. and died before 1711 . She was the daughter of John Howland and Mary Lee.
Hannah married Jonathan Crocker on 20 May 1686 in Barnstable, Mass.. Jonathan was born on 15 Jul 1662 in Barnstable, Mass.. He was the son of John Crocker and Mary Bodfish. He died on 24 Aug 1746 .

Jonathan - his second wife was Thankful Hinkley whom he married in 1710/1.

Hannah - married Jonathan Crocker of Barnstable in 1686. He was the son of Jonathan Crocker and Mary Bodfish.

i.  Lydia Crocker was born on 26 Sep 1686 in Barnstable, Mass. and died before 1742 .
Lydia married Benjamin Bodfish on 10 Nov 1709 in Barnstable, Mass.. Benjamin was born on 20 Jul 1683. He was the son of Joseph Bodfish and Elizabeth Besse. He died in 1760 .

ii.  Hannah Crocker was born on 26 Mar 1688 in Barnstable, Mass. and died before 1742 .
5. Shubael Howland - was born on 30 Sep 1672 in Barnstable, Mass. and died in 1737 in Sandwich, Mass. . He was the son of John Howland and Mary Lee.
Shubael married Mercy Blossom on 13 Dec 1700 in Barnstable, Mass.. Mercy was born Aug 1678 in Barnstable, Mass.. She was the daughter of Peter Blossom and Sarah Bodfish. She died in 1759 in Sandwich, Mass. .

Shubael - lived in Sandwich, Mass. after 1715.

Ansel married Elizabeth Bodfish. Elizabeth was born about 1740. She died in 1821 .

Elizabeth - was a firm believer in witchcraft.

Mary - married John Bursley or Barnstable.

7. Zaccheus Howland - was born on 30 Jun 1747 in Barnstable, Mass. and died on 16 Nov 1828 in Barnstable, Mass. . He was the son of Jabez Howland and Elizabeth Percival.
Zaccheus married Molly Palmer on 26 Feb 1769 in Barnstable, Mass.. Molly was born on 11 Feb 1749 in Barnstable, Mass.. She was the daughter of Samuel Palmer. She died on 2 Sep 1831 .

Zaccheus - was an honorable citizen and a loyal, patriotic man, even when it cost sacrifice to be such.

Allen - died in infancy.
x.  Job P. Howland was born on 26 Jun 1797 and died on 8 May 1820 in Havana .

Job - married Amanda Lovell of Barnstable - they had three children. He was a master-mariner.

8. William Howland - was born on 22 Jun 1773 in Barnstable, Mass. and died on 20 Nov 1824 in Falmouth, Mass. . He was the son of Zaccheus Howland and Molly Palmer.
William married Aurelia Yost on 24 Jan 1796 in Sandwich, Mass.. Aurelia was born on 7 Aug 1775 in Barnstable, Mass.. She was the daughter of Peter Yost Sr. and Mary Smith. She died on 19 Feb 1827 in Falmouth, Mass. (probably) .

William - while he was in Liverpool, England on business, he was pressed into British service Jul 14, 1809 and was not able to return to his family until Jul 6, 1815.

Aurelia - married Thomas Shiverick. They had two children, Maria L. Shiverick and Freeman Howland Shiverick.
iv.  William Henry Howland was born on 14 Jun 1816 in Falmouth, Mass. and died on 15 Dec 1899 in Mattapoisett, Mass. . See #9. below.

9. William Henry Howland - was born on 14 Jun 1816 in Falmouth, Mass. and died on 15 Dec 1899 in Mattapoisett, Mass. . He was the son of William Howland and Aurelia Yost.
William married Martha Poor on 14 Sep 1845 in Danvers, Mass.. Martha was born on 24 Sep 1820 in Danvers, Mass.. She was the daughter of Joseph Poor. She died on 14 Apr 1852 .
  Then William married Helena Maria Thompson Eells on 20 Aug 1856 in Hanson, Mass.. Helena was born on 22 Dec 1824 in Hannover, Plymouth Co., Mass.. She was the daughter of Samuel Eells and Jerusha Tower. She died on 3 Sep 1892 .

William - early learned the Carpenters trade, which was his occupation for eighteen years - and subsequently for 25 years he was a lumber dealer in Boston and Cambridge, Mass. On account of failing health, he gave up business in 1878 and retired to Mattapoisett.
 
Lived in Quincy Illinois, at various periods, for seven years of his life.

10. Elizabeth Eells Howland - was born on 1 Jan 1859 and died on 24 Jan 1952 . She was the daughter of William Henry Howland and Helena Maria Thompson Eells.
Elizabeth married Harry W. Hamblin.
