Lord John married Hawyse verch Griffith "Gadarn the Hardy" de La Pole. Hawyse was born on 25 Jul 1290, lived in Montgomeryshire, Wales. She was the daughter of Prince Owain ap Griffin De La Pole and Joan Corbet. She died after 1345 .

Hawyse - Hawise, called "Gadarn" or "The Hardy"; b apparently 25 July 1290, Lady of Powis in her own right; being ancestress with her husband of the succeeding 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th Lords Cherleton, the Barony falling into abeyance March 1420/1 on the death 'spm' of 5th Lord Cherleton, among whose daughters descendants any representation in the Barony may be held to exist.
