He went south and was not mentioned in his father's will. He settled where Washington, D.C. now stands, this having been part of VA. at the time. Before 1700 he was established as a tobacco grower, He went to N.C. with his s. Robert but soon returned to Va. where family traditon has it he was thrown into the Potomac River and frowned by rebellious slaves. The date of death is not known. (Sources: - 4)

Samuel - will bears date of Sept 9, 1773 and bequeaths his property to his wife Mary and seven children all minor heirs. To wife Mary, the home place, 150 acres, two negroes Sampson and Gato, to s. Robert 150 acres upper end of tract when he is 21, to son Nathaniel 200 acres when he is 21, joining brother Robert, to s. Samuel 150 acres same left Mary during life of widowhood. After death of Mary all property equally divided between children: Robert Bumpus, John Bumpus, Samuel Bumpus and Nancy Bumpus and a child yet unborn. NOTE: The name was spelled Bumpus throughout the will (Sources: - 4)

John - raised a company of troopers and fought under General Greene at Guilford Court House in March 1781. He was called "Tar River" to distinguish) him from his cousin "Deep Creek" John . They were b. 15 days apart. (Sources: - 4)

In 1850 census, "Wilson" (whom we believe to be Nelson, a misprint) was enumerated in his father, John (DH) Bumpass' household in Person County, North Carolina with his stepmother, Nancy, and siblings Nancy, Rebecca, John, Susan (step sister), Elvira, Simeon, Martha, and nephew, John Chandler. Nelson was 20 years old , born in North Carolina and a Farm Hand. ----- In 1857, Nelson was in Maury County, Tennessee. He gave a deposition for his older brother, Augustine Bumpass in cabinet making shop. It was recorded in Chancery Court Records, 1 810-1860, Vol. I, Compiled by Garrett & Lightfoot, 1965. ----- In the 1860 census, Nelson William Bumpas was enumerated with his wife, Harriet and son William in Helena, St. Frances Township , Phillips County, Arkansas. He was 30 years old, born in North Carolina. His occupation is Mfg. or Mgr. (difficult to read) . His personal estate is worth $300. There was no real estate. (Sources: - 4 - 5)
ii.  Pleasant Bumpass was born on 14 Nov 1820 in NC and died on 3 Feb 1899 in AR and was buried in Martin's Cemetery, Little Rock, AR .
Pleasant married Martha Ann Hart on 10 Jan 1858. Martha was born on 22 Feb 1830. She was the daughter of John Kemer Hart and Harriet Burress. She died on 21 Apr 1905 and was buried in Martin's Cemetery, Little Rock, AR .

Martha - is sister to Harriet Hart, 1st wife of Nelson Bumpass, Pleasant' s brother. (Sources: - 5)
