William married Margaret Ryse about 1552. Margaret was born about 1531 in Potten, Bedfordshire, England. She was the daughter of Richard Ryse. She died on 28 Dec 1594 .

5. Rev. Richard Bourne - was born in 1610 in Barnstable, Co Dev England and died on 18 Sep 1682 in Sandwich, Mass. . He was the son of William Bourne and Ursula Day.
Rev. Richard married Bathsheba Hallett in 1637 in New England. Bathsheba was born in England. She was the daughter of Andrew Hallett and Beatrix Knote. She died in 1670 in Sandwich, Mass. .
  Then Rev. Richard married Ruth Sargent on 2 Jul 1677 in Sandwich, Mass.. Ruth was chr. on 25 Oct 1642. She died on 4 Oct 1713 in Sandwich, Mass. .

Ruth - first husband was Jonathan WINSLOW, Richard was second, married Elder John CHIPMAN of Sandwich after Richard died.

Rev. Richard - buried near his home on left side of Dock Lane.
 
Came to Plymouth Mass about 1635. His ancestry traces back to Sir John Bourne, Secy of State to Queen Mary (1553-1558). This is known because of the "chervon party per pale" in the BOURNE Coat of Arms.
 
Richard, aged 24, left England, coming by way of St. Kitts & Barbados, arriving in America Jan 1, 1634/5. He stayed with his brother Henry in Scituate Mass. Richard was one of the earliest settlers of Shawmee, Mass, later incorporated in 1637 as Sandwich, Mass. (Part of Sandwich became Bourne, Mass. in 1884)
 
Richard Bourne had many interests but his work with the Indians is probably the most outstanding. The continued peace with the Indians was due more to his efforts than to the military forces. He learned the Indian language and began his work about 1658.
 
He was ordained pastor of the Indian Church at Mashpee in 1670. Richard purchased at his own expense 16 square miles as a permanent home for the Mashpee Indians. He translated the Lords Prayer into the Indian language - copies are available at the Aptucxet Trading Post near Bourne. In 1919 Indians were still living on the land given them by Richard.

Job - Married Ruhannah HALLET in 1664 - 5 children.
ii.  Elisha Bourne was born in 1641 in Sandwich, Mass. and died on 21 Dec 1706/1707 in Sandwich, Mass. and was buried in Sandwich Burial Grounds & Vr . See #6. below.
iii.  Shearjashub Bourne was born on 21 Apr 1643 in Sandwich, Mass. and died on 7 Mar 1718/1719 in Sandwich, Mass. .
Shearjashub married Bathsheba Skiff about 1666. Bathsheba was born on 21 Apr 1648 in Sandwich, Mass.. She was the daughter of James Skiffe and Mary Reeves. She died on 13 May 1714 in Sandwich, Barnstable County, Massachusetts . (Sources: - 1)

Shearjashub - was so named to express his father's wish. (Isaiah 7:3 means - a remnant shall return (to carry on work)) Successfully carried on his father's work among the Indians.
 
In the 17th century, missionary Richard Bourne tried unsuccessfully to have the Plymouth Court record a deed confirming the title of the Wampanoag to land between what are now the Santuit and Childs rivers. He died in 1682 without achieving his goal.
 
Three years later, his son, Shearjashub Bourne, succeeded where his father had failed. The court confirmed the title of the "South Sea Indians," as the Wampanoag were sometimes called, to the land and said none of it could be purchased by the English without the consent of all the Indians.
 
Nine children - including Judge Meletiah Bourne who married Desire Howland the daughter of John Howland and Hope Tilley. Was often a representative of Plymouth Colony and the Province of Mass.
iv.  Ezra Bourne was born on 12 May 1648 in Sandwich, Mass. and died on 5 Dec 1676 in Hingham, Mass. .

Ezra - died leaving no will, father intended to see that widow and children were not left destitute.

6. Elisha Bourne - was born in 1641 in Sandwich, Mass. and died on 21 Dec 1706/1707 in Sandwich, Mass. and was buried in Sandwich Burial Grounds & Vr . He was the son of Rev. Richard Bourne and Bathsheba Hallett.
Elisha married Patience Skiffe on 26 Oct 1675 in Sandwich, Mass.. Patience was born on 25 Mar 1652 in Sandwich, Mass.. She was the daughter of James Skiffe and Mary Reeves. She died on 25 Oct 1716 in Sandwich, Mass. and was buried in Sandwich Burial Grounds .

Elisha - occupation: Constable 1683 - made Freeman in 1681. "In 1695 liberty was granted Elisha to set up a grist mill on the Herring River, provided the toll shall not exceed 2 qts per bushel" - History of Martha's Vineyard - Banks
 
"Voted to give back to Mr. Elisha Bourne and Mr. John Gifford one half the money they lately payed for not going out when impressed in his Majesty's service" ... "In 1690 liberty was granted Elisha Bourne and assoc. to build dam across the Manomet River for the purpose of setting up a forge or other works."

i.  Nathan Bourne was born on 31 Aug 1676 in Sandwich, Mass. and died in 1749 in Sandwich, Mass .
Nathan married Mary Bassett in 1697/1698. Mary was born on 20 Oct 1676. She is the daughter of Colonel William Bassett III and Rachel Williston.

Nathan - was the owner of "Charming Betty" the 1st packet between Boston and Sandwich in 1717.
ii.  Elizabeth Bourne was born on 26 Mar 1679 in Sandwich, Mass. and died on 15 Apr 1715 in Sandwich, Mass. .

Elizabeth - married John Pope in 1699. John's brother Seth Pope, Jr. married her sister Hannah.
iii.  Mary Bourne was born on 4 Feb 1681/1682 in Sandwich, Mass. and died about 1738 .
Mary married John Percival on 3 Jun 1703. John was born in 1680 in Sandwich, Mass.. He was the son of Sir James Pervical and Mary Rainsford. He died in 1738 .

iv.  Abigail Bourne was born on 22 Jul 1684 in Sandwich, Mass. and died Jan 1764 in Sandwich, Mass. .
Abigail married William Bassett IV on 3 Feb 1708/1709 in Sandwich, Mass. William was born in 1681 in Sandwich, MA. He was the son of Colonel William Bassett III and Rachel Williston. He died about 1732 .

v.  Catherine Bourne was born on 20 Dec 1686 in Sandwich, Mass..
vi.  Bathsheba Bourne was born on 12 Dec 1687 in Sandwich, Mass. and died before 1763 .

Bathsheba - married Micah Blackwell in 1715.
vii.  Hannah Bourne was born on 4 May 1689 in Sandwich, Mass. and died on 18 Mar 1744/1745 in Sandwich, Mass. .

Hannah - married Seth Pope, Jr. in 1709/10.
viii.  Elisha Bourne was born on 27 Jul 1692 in Sandwich, Mass. and died on 10 Dec 1710/1711 in Sandwich, Mass. .
